Thrifty Naturalista

Hello 2014!! With all the excitement over resolutions and the holidays I have to admit that I simply can not afford to weave my hair for a while....Well not the weave I'm longing for. Needless to say I guess that ill be getting more in touch with my natural hair, a lot sooner than I had planned (spring) but it is what it is.
This winter Jersey is getting whacked with below freezing temps and the dryest air you can get without changing altitude so I have to be adamant about my regimen. I notice that my hair needs to be wet, oiled and sealed every two-three days or it becomes straw in the elements.
I am not a fan of wearing my hair out just yet, waiting on some more fullness to have a perfect twistout :) therefore, I'm protective styling with twists, braids and lots of essential oils in my prepoo, cowashes and dc. Being careful to practice tying my hair in satin at nite or under winter hats to prevents snags and long term breakage.
Shea butter mixes and aloe vera seems to work best in moisturizing and dc and thank goodness I have more than enough on hand. A sistas pockets are tight so this is actually a perfect time to experiment with all the other products I've accumlated in my 18 months of this natural hair journey. (8 transitioning & 10m natural)
Just last nite I decided to add aloe vera to my Cholesterol dc...Success! So soft and moisturized, I think its become a staple instantly! Providing shine, elasticity, moisture and a great detangler, best part, fresh aloe only costs a buck and last forever if u freeze it.
So ladies don't feel the need to go broke keeping up with the Jones' most of the things that you need for your hair are easily accessible if you listen to your hair for what it craves. I created a long lasting, effective dc for a dollar by using what I had under my sink already and if that's not winning for the new year then idk what is.
